JOHN 5 Reiterates Praise For Forthcoming ROB ZOMBIE Album: 'It's His Best Record Yet, By Far'

February 16, 2018

John 5 (ROB ZOMBIE, MARILYN MANSON) was interviewed by El Prezidente of the New Jersey radio station 91.3 WTSR's "The Chainsaw Symphony" after the guitarist's February 11 performance at The Stanhope House in Stanhope, New Jersey. The full conversation can be heard below. A few excerpts follow (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET):

On his live performances as a solo artist:

John: "None of the show is improvised. I play all the things just like the record, so it's a lot to remember. You have people this far away from you — and I'm holding my hand about a foot away from my face — and it's distracting if someone's going like this [claps], keeping time to the track but it's off-time. You're like, 'That will mess anybody up.'

On his recently released live album, "It's Alive!":

John: "It just came together by accident. We were in Sellersville, Pennsylvania, and the guy was like, 'Hey, do you want to record your show?' I was, like, 'Sure.' We didn't move around like we did tonight. I said, 'Let's just concentrate — look at each other, stand still.' I even explained to the crowd — I said, 'Listen, we're recording tonight. That's why we're not jumping around. Just bear with us.' They loved it, and I kept that on the record, too. It was cool, and it came out great, and I'm very proud of it. That's why I wanted to put it out and tour it and celebrate it."

On when to expect the new album by ROB ZOMBIE:

John: "I don't know yet. They're doing drums today, actually. Rob just texted me and sent me a little video of them doing drums, so I'm really excited. My parts are all done. It's his best record yet, by far. It's an incredible record. I never say this, but a lot of bands say, 'Oh, it's our best record.' This is by far his best record, WHITE ZOMBIE or solo. It's so great. I'm psyched."

On his April 6 concert at Los Angeles' Whisky A Go Go, which will feature guest appearances by Ace Frehley, Sebastian Bach, Nikki Sixx, Scott Ian and others:

John: "I think Scott Ian's wife, Pearl, is going to sing 'Shout At The Devil', and Sebastian's going to sing 'Parasite'. I want to try to get him to sing 'Enter Sandman'. It's going to be like a party — like a weird, crazy party with my friends."

On David Lee Roth, with whom he played from 1998 to 2003:

John: "He went to Japan and got all tattooed. He knows how to speak Japanese. The guy is always learning. He writes music, and he always keeps busy. I love that guy. I talked to him... probably right before the tour. He's doing great. He's a blast."

On whether he's changed over the years:

John: "Nothing's changed from when I'm seven years old to now. Nothing's changed at all. I like the same stuff that I did — KISS, VAN HALEN, 'Happy Days', 'Laverne & Shirley', 'The Brady Bunch', monsters and all that stuff. Tits, and all that stuff — all the same stuff."

John 5 — real name: John William Lowery — is touring in support of "It's Alive!", which came out on January 25. The first live album released by John 5 and THE CREATURES — which includes Ian Ross on bass and Rodger Carter on drums — is also the first LP by John 5 to be made available on vinyl.
